The Building Blocks series is aimed at those new to the Compliance profession and those who are looking to move into the area of Compliance. However, it may also appeal to seasoned Compliance practitioners who wish to refresh their knowledge and understanding of key areas of Compliance practice.

This workshop focuses on the role of the Compliance Officer, how the Compliance Officer should engage with a business and the traits of an effective Compliance Officer.  A panel of industry experts and practitioners will lead attendees through technical areas of compliance roles and the most current thinking on compliance.

Panel of speakers: 

Melanie Blake, Director ACOI
Melanie has over 17 years experience in regulatory compliance and risk across a number of sectors and jurisdictions including the financial services industry in Ireland where she has worked in the life and pensions, banking, asset management and fund services sectors.

Melanie has been a member of ACOI Council since 2011 and served as Chairperson and Vice Chairperson between 2013 and 2016.
She is current Chair of the ACOI Education and Professional Development Services Committee and a previous Chair of the Ethics Committee.
Melanie is a FCOI, a Chartered Banker, holds a MBA specialising in Regulation & Compliance and a LLB.
Melanie lectures in Compliance on both MSc in Compliance and Financial Services Diploma programmes at UCD and delivers the Compliance module of the Diploma in Risk, Internal Audit and Compliance at Chartered Accountants Ireland. She is past author (2008 – 2013) of the PDC 1 textbook.

Jason Palmer, Director ACOI
Jason has over 29 years of experience in the financial services industry, 15 of which, in regulatory Compliance roles. As such, he is a compliance professional who understands the need to be able to balance the adherence to legal and regulatory requirements whilst meeting the practical business needs. He is currently Senior Compliance Officer for Hewlett-Packard International Bank plc. Previously he has undertaken Compliance/MLRO roles in the international life assurance/reinsurance sectors.

Jason joined the Council of ACOI in January 2013 and has previously served as Chair of the Membership Committee and the AML Working Group.

He is a LCOI, LIB and holds a Professional Certificate in Financial Crime Prevention.
