The Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland was established in November 2002. It is a ‘not for profit’ company limited by guarantee and has charitable status.

Its purpose is:

  • To promote, for the public benefit, the advancement and dissemination of knowledge, information, views and ideas in the field of regulatory compliance and business ethics
  • To provide training and conduct examinations in regulatory compliance and business ethics
  • To promote high ethical standards among all persons engaged in regulatory compliance.

The affairs of the Association are overseen by the members of Council, which consists of 12 elected members, who govern the Association.

The work of the Council is supported by its sub-committees: Finance, Risk and Administration, Audit, Membership, Education and Professional Development Services, Ethics, as well as a network of working groups: AML, Consumer Protection, Credit Union, Data Protection & Technology, Funds, Pensions and Prudential Regulation and Governance.

The day to day affairs of the Association are managed by the Executive, led by the Chief Executive Officer.

Executive Staff

Evelyn Cregan, FCA, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)  

Evelyn was appointed to the position in July 2015. Evelyn has held a variety of roles in education and financial services sectors. Previously, Evelyn held the position of Head of School in Dublin Business School, DBS the largest private third level education provider in Ireland. Prior to that Evelyn lectured in UCD Quinn and Michael Smurfit Graduate Schools of Business over a ten year period. Evelyn worked in financial services as Managing Director of National Westminster Reinsurance Limited. Evelyn completed her chartered accountant training with KPMG in Dublin.

Dr. Finbarr Murphy, Director of Education and Professional Development

Finbarr was appointed to this position in January 2015. Previously Finbarr was a Senior Programme Manager with the Institute of Banking for 10 years. He worked in the investment management sector for 7 years prior to this in various roles, primarily as a Private Client Portfolio Manager and in Marketing and Sales positions. As a qualified secondary school teacher Finbarr taught for two years prior to starting his career in industry in Irish Life where he worked for 2 years within the Corporate Pensions Division. Finbarr, in 2017, completed of his Doctorate in Higher Education and Lifelong Learning from the University of Sheffield. Finbarr holds an MSc in Investment and Treasury from DCU, HDip in Education from Trinity College Dublin, BA Business from University of Glamorgan, Wales. He is also a Qualified Financial Advisor (QFA). Finbarr is married to Tess and has two children, Grace and Daniel, his greatest achievements to date.

Caroline Hollick-Ward, Membership and Events Manager

Caroline has been working with the ACOI since 2008. Caroline has worked in a variety of roles including but not exclusive to Education and Training, Recruitment and Accountancy. She holds a BA in Economics and Social Studies and is a qualified Trainer with the IITD. Caroline hails from Donegal, is married to William and has a daughter, Darcey and a son, Regan.

Clarissa Hills, Operations Manager

Clarissa joined the ACOI in August 2015 and since May 2016 she has taken on the role as Operations Manager.  Clarissa brings over 10 years’ of event and office management experience, working in non-profit and commercial sectors. She has a BSc (Hons) in Management and Marketing from Dublin Institute of Technology.
