The Future of International Data Transfers

On Wednesday, 25th November 2020, the ACOI Data Protection and Information Security Working Group will deliver a webinar on the topic of The Future of International Data Transfers. We are delighted to have Anne-Marie Bohan of Matheson, Joe Jones, Head of International Data Transfers, Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and John McGrane, Director General, The British Irish Chamber of Commerce

Key topics will include:

  1. Understanding the latest EU and UK developments in light of the Brexit transitional period ending in December 2020,
  2. The draft supplementary measures recommendations published by the European Data Protection Board and draft EU Commission decision and related new draft standard contractual clauses published on 10 and 12 November respectively for consultation further to the July 2020 Schrems II decision from the Court of Justice of the European Union and
  3. Practical guidance in respect of existing and future international data transfers.

Anne-Marie Bohan, Partner, Matheson
Anne-Marie Bohan has over 20 years' experience in technology related legal matters, and is head of our FinTech practice. As a member of Matheson's Technology and Innovation Group and our Asset Management and Investment Funds Group, Anne-Marie brings together significant practical experience in advising on technology and privacy legal issues with industry knowledge and an understanding of applicable regulatory rules and regulatory requirements. She advises on all aspects of technology and e-commerce law, as well as outsourcings and contracted services, with particular focus on the requirements of financial institutions and financial services providers in these areas.
Anne-Marie's practice includes advising a broad range of clients on data protection, privacy issues and cyber security issues, including employee data protection issues, data subject access requests and security breach incidents.
Anne-Marie has lectured on IT, data protection and financial services in the Law Society of Ireland, the National University of Ireland Maynooth, and more broadly. She is author of the Ireland chapter in Outsourcing Contracts – a Practical Guide (Lewis, Fourth Ed, 2012) and is co-author of the Irish chapters in a number of data protection and FinTech guides. Anne-Marie is also a member of Irish Funds FinTech working group.
