On Wednesday, 16th December we will have Laura Heuston, Director and Co-Founder, SustainabilityWorks. The purpose of the event is to give an overview of our global sustainable development challenges and the significant role that the financial services sector can play in solving those challenges, concluding with an overview of recent developments in EU policy on sustainable finance.
There is a commonly held perception in the financial sector that sustainability has nothing to do with finance. This perception could not be more wrong. In fact, the financial sector is one of the key actors that can make a difference to achieving our sustainable development goals. This is because, as we all know, nothing will happen without money… and the investment required for our global sustainable infrastructure and innovation needs are huge.
Sustainable finance is a key focus of EU policy and the EU is proposing legislative and regulatory changes that will be of relevance for compliance officers across the financial services sector. This seminar will be an opportunity to get an overview of those proposals but also to get an understanding of the real-world challenges that have resulted in the need for those proposals.
Key Learning Outcomes:
An overview of global sustainable development challenges, and how the world has come together to address these challenges
- An understanding of the role of finance in achieving those goals, i.e. the increasing focus on the concept of Sustainable Finance
- An overview of the EU Sustainable Finance Action Plan and the current status of implementation
