Topic: The practical issues faced by compliance professionals in the context of the Central Bank's increased use of its administrative sanction powers.

  • Brief overview of the Admin Sanctions framework - Framework Strategy Document of December 2009 - Size of new enforcement team (inc. a brief overview of CP57 - Inquiry Guidelines to be prescribed pursuant to section 33BD of the Central Bank Act 1942 (as amended))
  • Dealing with issues before they become administrative sanctions
  • Issues that arise on receipt of a sanction letter and how to deal with the sanction letter - what is the process - how to manage senior manager expectations
  • How soon can a settlement meeting be arranged and what one can expect in a settlement meeting

Speaker profile

Joe is a partner in the Financial Institutions Group and is Head of the Regulatory Risk Management and Compliance team at Matheson Ormsby Prentice.
He is a solicitor with over seventeen years experience, over fifteen of which were spent in the financial services sector. Prior to joining Matheson Ormsby Prentice in 2004, he was Managing Director of a leading, IFSC based company. He is a member of the Association of Compliance Officers In Ireland and the Institute of Bankers.
